I never thought I would consider 40 degrees warm, but now I look forward to the next 40-degree day. It was bright and sunny yesterday afternoon and we decided to go for a walk to the local street market. Someone said it was cold and we were all encouraged to put on our long underwear. I thought I would need to wear it all the time, but the house is quite comfortable, and I don’t need it when inside. I decided to use my heavy-duty pair and got them on under my jeans. All bundled up we headed outside and immediately I could feel the cold. The wind was funneling through the apartment buildings and I quickly put up the hood on my heavy coat over my stocking cap.
The market is right next to the apartment complex, so we didn’t have to walk far. I was very grateful that once we got outside the apartments the wind died down. It was after lunch and this market is called the morning market. The vendors were getting ready to pack up for the day, but many were still open. The selection of fruits and vegetables was amazing. Some of the vegetables were familiar, for example yams were very common, but many I had never seen before.
We ended up freshly made peanut butter, apples and raw peanuts. We roasted the peanuts when we got home, and they made a wonderful snack. This was the first day that I wore my gloves outside. I’m sure they helped, but by the time we were heading home my fingers hurt from the cold. It will be challenging to get motivated to go out again, but there is no way to see the local sights by staying inside. I’ll just have to learn better ways to cope with the cold.
